Severe measures to be taken against the elements involved in oil smuggling

Karachi: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that strict measures should be taken against the elements involved in oil smuggling.

According to details, a high-level meeting on anti-trafficking measures was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

During the briefing, it was said that the sale of smuggled oil is causing an annual loss of Rs 100-150 billion to the economy while at present 2094 petrol pumps in the country are involved in the sale of smuggled oil.

Presiding over the meeting, Premier, Imran Khan said that irreparable damage is being done to the national economy owing to smuggling which is why severe measures need to be taken against the elements involved in smuggling.

Imran Khan further mentioned that anti-trafficking measures would generate revenue that can be spent on the welfare of poor people.

The meeting was attended via video link by Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Information Minister Shibli Faraz, Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Shehzad Akbar, Special Assistant for Revenue Dr Waqar Masood Khan, Secretaries of Commerce, Petroleum, Maritime Affairs, and Home Affairs Division, Chairman FBR and senior civil and military officials.
